Domus Beate Marie

(2022)

Domus Beate Marie was the original name of the Saint John’s Hospital in Damme Belgium. Established in the 13th century, the hospital housed the poor and sick and passers-by of the area. In Domus Beate Marie, Axelle VM Philtjens takes you on a visual journey throughout one of the oldest buildings in Flanders.
It tells the story of the remains of a building that is slowly succumbing to time. Philtjens tries to capture the last images of the building before it’s future renovations.
Domus Beate Marie was made to try and preserve this story as a part of the history of the future.
