Tarditas Temporis

(2021-2022)

Tarditas Temporis is the search for a visualization of time. Is it possible to capture time in an image? That is the question which led artist Axelle VM Philtjens to start her research with as case Antwerp’s Saint-Michael’s Abbey. By means of a historic tale Philtjens explores the relationship between time and images.

Polaroids are a fleeting media, used to capture a moment at high speed. With her experimental polaroid's she tries to capture the decay of the Saint-Michael’s Abbey through time and thus capture time in images. Tarditas Temporis is the visualization of a journey through time in images.
